Dorothy Carlos

ist eine experimentelle Cellistin und elektronische Musikerin, die in New York City und Chicago im Bereich improvisierter Performance und Mehrkanal-Sound arbeitet. Ihre Arbeit nutzt zufällige Elektronik und erweiterte Techniken, um Fragilität und Imaginationen zu erforschen. Aktuelle Soloauftritte wurden international von e-flux, Experimental Sound Studio Chicago, Big Ears Festival, default, Center for New Music and Associated Technologies (CNMAT) an der UC Berkley und der School of the Art Institute of Chicago präsentiert.

Dorothy wurde als Künstlerin und Mitarbeiterin in Projekten vorgestellt, die im Swiss Institute (New York), Night Gallery (Los Angeles), Artists Space (New York), Performance Space (New York), Untitled Art Fair (Miami) und Gaudeamus präsentiert wurden Festival (Utrecht, NL) und dem Fall River Museum of Contemporary Art. Ihre Arbeiten wurden in Artforum, The Wire, The Quietus und dem Chicago Reader vorgestellt.

Letztes Jahr veröffentlichte Dorothy in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Künstler Brian Oakes ein Album auf dem in Chicago ansässigen Label American Dreams. Weitere aktuelle Mitarbeiter sind Catalina Ouyang, Mayfield Brooks, Poncili Creacion und Shala Miller. Dorothy hat einen Bachelor-Abschluss von der NYU, wo sie als Vollstipendiatin klassisches Cello und Anthropologie studierte, sowie einen MFA in Ton von der School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Sie ist derzeit Alba Artist in Residence im Experimental Sound Studio Chicago.
